Protecting the lake from invasive species
More and more lakes in the area are battling invasives. From snails to milfoil to purple loosestrife, it is imperative that we all fight these invasive species to protect our lake and our community. Little Sissabagama is a bastion of native wilderness but has its issues. We have invasive earthworms that destroy the undergrowth on the big island and freshwater jelly fish that occur from time to time. A single semi-private boat landing has helped us keep invasives at bay, but all it takes is an inconsiderate renter, owner or guest, or visitor that drops in a boat off the road to upset the delicate balance of life that is Little Sissabagama. Please clean your boat, don't bring in potentially contaminated firewood and watch your shoreline.
